UPDATED: Manchester Cop Shoots and Kills Loose Pit Bull

The Manchester man who's dog was shot by a Manchester police officer after it reportedly got loose and charged at the officer is facing a number of citations for the incident. 

According to Manchester Police Capt. Christopher Davis, the man, identified as Luis Maysonet, of 62 Alexander St., is facing citations for two counts of having an unlicensed dog (Maysonet apparently owns another dog at the same residence), and citations for a roaming dog, a nuisance dog and an unvaccinated dog. 

The citations are not criminal charges and will only result in fines. 

Davis said that the unidentified officer that shot the dog continues on active duty. 

"It's an unfortunate situation, but it's not considered an officer involved shooting," Davis said.

A Manchester Police officer drew his gun and shot a loose dog that was charging him Wednesday afternoon, according to the Hartford Courant. 

According to the Courant, an officer responded to a report of a loose dog on Alexander Street that had apparently leapt through the screen of a second story window. 

The officer was waiting for another officer to bring dog treats and a snare so he could capture the dog, according to the Courant, when it charged him. The officer drew his weapon and shot the dog dead, according to the Courant. 

The officer is not named in the story. The dog was described as a "pit bull," according to the Courant, and its owner was not home at the time of the incident. 

Manchester Patch could obtain no information about this incident from police Wednesday evening, but will follow up on it tomorrow.
