Shady Glen's Cheeseburger Named 'Best of Connecticut 2012'

Every year for the past 15, the editors of Connecticut Magazine compile their best of the best — in the categories of food and drink, nightlife, casinos, diversions, health and beauty and style.

This year, Manchester had only one entry on the list, the popular and venerable local eatery , which won in the category of Best Cheeseburger. 

Here is the excerpt from September issue of Connecticut magazine praising the popular local burger joint:

Anyone can put together a burger and cheese, but it’s the unique way they go about it at the Shady Glen that makes it so special—and tasty! Each cheeseburger starts off on the grill with four slices of cheese, but instead of stacked, each slice is laid with a portion on the burger and the rest on the grill. As the burger cooks and the cheese melts, it is folded up around the burger, like a crispy, chewy halo straight from cheeseburger heaven! Then carefully removed from the grill, it’s served with fries, coleslaw and a pickle; add one of the Glen’s heralded milk shakes, and you have the ultimate cheeseburger experience.

There were eight separate burger categories named "Best of..." overall, with several other nearby eateries, including Plan B Burger Bar & Tavern in nearby Glastonbury and West Hartford and the Wood-n-Tap in Vernon and Hartford, making north central Connecticut a veritable paradise for burger lovers.
