What Road in Manchester Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

MANCHESTER, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Manchester. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

  • "Strange Street. But check it out. It's the worst "paved" street in Manchester."
  • "Bank Street. It's a short street, but every jerk who doesn't live on it assumes it's an easy cut through street; plus people have constantly tried to pass my daughter's handicap bus on several occasions."
  • "Porter St.. Plus a speed bump at both stop signs directly in front of Highland Park Elementary. People blow it all the time, including during school."
  • "Florence St. Not a long road and not even a cut through, but everyone heading to Pathfinders Club seems to think it's ok to drive 50 mph. I can't even let my kids in my front yard."
  • "North Main Street, it's a speedway anymore and CT Transit is the worst offender."
  • "Strant Street between Main and Summit. Lots of kids live on the this street and people use it as a cut through to Main doing up to 50 mph."
  • "Highland st, right next to hpm. I live right on the hill and people are insane. If you are one of those people, slow down!"
  • "Green Road! Where even the school buses speed."
  • "Richmond Drive! We have little kids on the street, and people fly up and down the hill and road."
  • "Nutmeg Dr. A majority of the parents fly past the buses because they're already on their phones and can't stop in time. People corner at 30 and accelerate from there. It's not a race track."
