Officials: Young Boy Started Manchester Fire

The fire happened on Monday afternoon.

A 6-year-old boy has admitted to starting a fire at 308 West Center St. on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the home and upon arrival, discovered that a small fire involving bed linens and some clothing in a bedroom had been extinguished by an adult son of the homeowner.

There was light smoke in the house that was cleared by mechanical ventilation.

Manchester Fire Chief David Billings said a 6-year-old child, a nephew of the homeowner, admitted to playing with a lighter and starting the fire.

He will be referred to a juvenile firesetter program for professional followup.

There were no injuries and the family was able to reoccupy the house.
