Arrest Made in April UConn Bomb Threat Investigation

A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection to the threatening phone call.

A Wethersfield man was arrested Wednesday for calling in a bomb threat to the University of Connecticut in the spring, Eyewitness News reports.

Twenty-year-old Matthew J. Tollis, who is not a UConn student, was charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit threatening, first-degree conspiracy to commit falsely reporting an incident and second-degree conspiracy to commit breach of peace, according to the news station.

On April 3, an employee in the “Tasker” admissions building at UConn’s Storrs campus received a threatening phone call from someone claiming that bombs were in the building and that he would kill people inside.

Classes were canceled and the Tasker Building was evacuated around 9:30 a.m., and the school sent out a notice warning people to stay away from the area. No explosives were found following a search.

UConn police determined that a group of people were involved with calling in the threat, and the investigation is ongoing. It is unknown if more arrests will be made.
