Former State Worker Who Pleaded Guilty to Stealing Welfare Funds Hails from Storrs

Storrs resident and former state employee Suki L. Handly is a figure of heated debate in Hartford, after she stole more than $44,000 in welfare benefits on the job, according to the Hartford Courant.
Handly's story has raised questions at the Capitol over background checks for state job applicants. The state of Connecticut hired Handly in 2008 despite her previous convictions on charges of prostitution, drug possession and larceny, the Courant reports.
