American Steakhouse Closing Meriden Restaurant After More Than 50 Years In Business

The closure will leave American Steakhouse, known for its family-friendly prices and catchy advertisements, with only two locations in CT.

MERIDEN, CT — American Steakhouse, a small chain of Connecticut restaurants once known for their catchy television advertisements, announced this week plans to close their Meriden restaurant location later this month after more than 50 years in business.

In an announcement posted to Facebook, American Steakhouse said "with great sadness" the Meriden restaurant will close for good April 21.

"We have cherished the years of serving our loyal customers in this wonderful community," the post reads, "and we thank you for your support."

Located at 1170 East Main Street, the Meriden restaurant first opened its doors to customers in 1971, offering a full menu of steaks, sandwiches, seafood, barbecue and more, along with an extensive list of appetizers, sides and desserts, all at family-friendly prices.

"Although the doors to our Meriden location are closing, our commitment to providing exceptional dining experiences will continue at our two other locations," the post reads.

Connecticut residents may remember American Steakhouse for the catchy jingle that played in its television commercials, emphasizing that not just Connecticut, but "America loves American Steakhouse."

Requests for comment from American Steakhouse and the Midstate Chamber of Commerce, which includes Meriden, were not immediately returned Wednesday.

Those who wish to fill up on steak and other menu items before the closure can visit the Meriden restaurant Monday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

"Much gratitude to our customers," the post reads. "All the best from the crew and management at Meriden American Steakhouse."
