CAPT, CMT Scores Fluctuate Among Meriden Students
Results show some increases in proficiency among high school test takers, while some scores increased and decreased in the grade school tests.

Test scores among tenth grade students at Meriden's two high schools saw some slight increases in 2013 over 2012, however Meriden is still well below state averages, results this week showed.
Of the students at Platt and Maloney high schools who took the Connecticut Academic Performance Test, 53.9 percent scored at or above the proficiency level in math in 2013, compared to 61.4 percent in 2012. In science, scores at or above the proficiency level dipped to 61.2 percent in 2013 from 62.9 percent in 2012, and in writing it went to 75.9 percent in 2013 from 77.2 percent in 2012.
The only category that saw an increase was in the reading, which resulted in 61.9 percent in 2013 compared to 60 percent in 2012.
In a news release the state Department of Education said Connecticut students overall saw a hike in Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) scores, but a decline in the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) scores.
Also, the results in Meriden are still considerably lower than the statewide averages, which vary between 78 and 88 percent in the proficiency category, depending on the discipline.
The Connecticut Mastery Test results, however, vary by grade. Those results are viewable in the link at the bottom of this article.
The CMTs are administered to all students from grade three to grade eight. Students are tested in math, reading and writing, and in middle school, they are tested in science as well.
Students are labeled based on their performance. The labels, in descending order, for both CMTs and CAPTs are advanced, goal, proficient, basic and below basic.
