Driver Killed In Meriden Crash Identified: Report

A driver was killed and two others were hospitalized after crashing into an Amtrak train bridge abutment in Meriden, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — The 20-year-old driver killed after crashing into an Amtrak train bridge abutment Friday in Meriden has been identified as Jose Garcia-Garcia of Meriden, according to the Record-Journal.

Police responded around 1:45 a.m. on Feb. 14 to the area of South Colony Road and Powers Drive on the report of a crash, according to Sgt. Michael Boothroyd.

Boothroyd said an investigation found that the incident involved a single vehicle—a 2007 Honda Accord—that collided head-on with the Amtrak train bridge abutment while traveling north on South Colony Road.

Three people were inside the vehicle. The two passengers were hospitalized with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, according to Boothroyd.

Despite the attempts at life-saving measures by responders at the scene, Boothroyd said the driver died of his injuries at the hospital.
