(Updated) Four Displaced, Firefighter Injured in Colony Street Blaze
One firefighter is being treated for burns to his hands after a blaze at a home on Colony Street early Friday afternoon.

A Meriden firefighter suffered “minor injuries” and four residents are displaced after city firefighters battled a blaze on Colony Street early Friday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to a home at 212 Colony Street around noon with reports that the house was on fire, officials said. Each of Meriden's fire companies responded and were able to quickly knock down the flames.
Deputy Fire Chief David Bowen told the Record-Journal that the fire started along an exterior porch of the home, a multi-family dwelling, and winds pushed the flame across the porch to the exterior walls of the house.
A passerby and former firefighter saw the flames and checked to assure that no one was home before pulling a nearby fire alarm box.
During the response, Bowen told the Record-Journal that one of the firefighters was attempting to put on his mask and headgear when heat from the home burned his hands. He is being treated for minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
No one was home at the time, officials said. The Red Cross is helping provide assistance to four residents of the home who were displaced by the fire.
The name of the firefighter injured has not been released.
Meriden Fire Marshal Steve Trella remained on scene and the city is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
