Man 'Seriously Injured' in Downtown Fight; Second Detained

Fire officials allegedly witnessed a man being assaulted and thrown into West Main Street on Tuesday, leaving him injured and requiring the services of a Lifestar Helicopter.

A city man was taken to a nearby hospital with “considerable injuries” and a second unnamed man is being investigated as a suspect following an assault witnessed by fire officials along West Main Street on Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed.

The two men were along West Main Street near the intersection of Grove Street when officials said they became engaged in a fight that had allegedly “started because of something about a girl,” police said witnesses confirmed.

Fire Chief James Trainor was in his fire vehicle at the time the man was thrown in the road, police said. After seeing the man be thrown into the road, another man came forward and appeared to be slapping him while he was unconscious.

The Record-Journal reported “when police arrived on scene, Trainor alerted them to the second man, who was placed in handcuffs and detained as police began an investigation. Trainor said he heard the second man yell ‘get an ambulance’.”

Lifestar Helicopter was called in to life flight the man to Hartford Hospital for his injuries, police said. His name and condition were not released.

The Record-Journal reported that the second man was placed in handcuffs, but police were unable to say if there were any arrests or if the suspect remained in custody on Tuesday evening.

No further information has been released in the case.
