Meriden Man Struck, Killed Saturday on Whitney Avenue in Hamden
He was apparently trying to cross the street Saturday night when he was hit, according to police.

A Meriden man was killed Saturday night when he was struck by a car while apparently trying to cross Whitney Avenue at Home Place in Hamden.
At about 9:45 p.m. police got a report of a pedestrian struck, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronals Smith. When officers arrived, they found Manuel Jesus Bonete - Canar, 58, of Meriden, lying in the roadway, he said.
Hamden Fire Rescue treated Bonete-Canar at the scene, Smith said, and he was then taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he died from his injuries.

"A preliminary investigation revealed that Bonete-Canar was crossing Whitney Avenue near the intersection of Home Place, when he was struck by a motor vehicle traveling northbound," Smith said. "The operator of the vehicle was identified as Leonard Wisneski, 73, of Hamden."
The Hamden Police Department Traffic Division is continuing the investigation,Smith said, and anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Kevin Hall at 203-230-4000.
