Obituary: Angelo J. Grego Jr., 78, of Meriden
Angelo, a devoted family man, proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a dedicated member of the New Haven Police Department for many years.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Angelo J. Grego Jr. 78, of Meriden, formerly of New Haven Ct, husband of Karen (Sullivan) Grego, passed away December 9, 2021 at the VA Hospital in West Haven, Ct.
Angelo was born in New Haven, Ct. on January 22, 1943, a son of the late Angelo and Theresa (Manzi) Grego.
Angelo was a lifelong New Haven resident who loved to talk about growing up in New Haven and often reminisced of his neighborhood adventures on Wolcott Street with his younger brother Billy by his side.
He had several jobs growing up until he served in the United State Navy where he served aboard the USS Malloy in the 1960s. After his service in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Karen, with whom he had 4 children and shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with.
Angelo joined the New Haven Police Department and retired in 1991 after 20 years of service to the city that he loved. Angelo was a "people person" who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was always willing to tell stories about his life. He loved to listen to people and was always quick with a witty joke.
He was a master chef in his own mind and truly enjoyed cooking and eating food! He loved his 50s and 60s music, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife on the back, going on camping trips, and loved sitting on the beach in Misquamicut R.I. But most of all, he loved taking care of his family.
Angelo would spend his days running errands for his grandchildren, taking them to the park, doctor's appointments and whatever else they needed.
He was an incredibly thoughtful husband, father and grandfather who did so much and always sacrificed for his family.
In addition to his wife, Karen, he is survived by his children, Anthony Grego and his wife Sharon of Meriden, April Creamer and her husband Mark of Meriden, Dawn Cosenza and her husband Richard of Hamden, and Jennifer Grego-Konobeev and her husband, Paul, of Meriden.
He is also survived by his 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren which he loved more than anything. Paul, Adam, Monica, Dillon, Emily, Mary, Stephanie, Angela, Dave, Ashley, Adel, Brittany, Karissa, RJ, Jared, Valerie, Amber, Matthew, Christina, Karen, Anna, Lillyanna, Luka, Aiden, Athena, Jacob, Adriana and his little buddy Justin.
His grandchildren/great grandchildren were his true happiness.
He is also survived by his younger brother William Grego and his wife Blanch of New Haven.
He has dozens of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews who always said that Uncle Angelo was the coolest!
He will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him but our memories of him will make us smile forever.
Angelo’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 9 am until 10:30 am.
A funeral service will follow at 10:30 am in the funeral home.
