Obituary: Gilberto Gonzalez, 85, of Meriden

Gilberto, a proud U.S. Army veteran and devoted family man, worked for Meriden Rolling Mills and Ideal Forging before retirement.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Gilberto Gonzalez, 85, of Meriden, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden CT. He was the loving husband of Delia Gonzalez.

He was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico, September 29, 1936, a son of the late Gil Gonzalez and Margarita Chaparro.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. After serving his country, Gilberto moved to Meriden and raised his family.

He worked for Meriden Rolling Mills and Ideal Forging before retiring.

He enjoyed his retirement years between his homes in Meriden and Aguada surrounded by his wife and family

In addition to his wife Delia, he is survived by his sister Elaine Maldonado, his brother Victor “Papo” Gonzalez, sons Ever Gonzalez, Luis Gonzalez (Julie), and Daughter Moraima all of Meriden; his grandchildren Tanisha Pennyman, Gilbert Pennyman, Marissa Gonzalez and great-grandchildren Elijah Pennyman and Jewell Pennyman as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers Isreal Gonzalez, Enrique “Quique” Gonzalez.

Funeral services and interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden will be private.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home.
