Obituary: Nestor “Joe” Acevedo, 74, of Meriden
Joe, a devoted family man known for his kindness and generosity, worked as a mechanic for Carabetta Management Company for over 45 years.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Nestor “Joe” Acevedo, 74, of Meriden, husband of the late Yadira (Cubano) Acevedo, passed away March 24, 2022 at UCONN John Dempsey Hospital.
Joe was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico on January 24, 1948, a son of the late Arturo and Emeregilda (Codero) Acevedo.
Joe served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He served in the Army’s First Battalion, 502nd Infantry Division of the 101st Airborne.
He was employed as a mechanic for Carabetta Management Company for over 45 years as well as owning his own garage. He loved his career as much as he loved his family. He spread nothing but kindness and generosity to anyone he met, and was a friend to all he crossed paths with; which led to many close relationships that have lasted many years.
His presence would light up any room he walked through, and the marks that his footsteps created will never fade. Joe loved spending time with his family, including weekly dinners, vacations, special events and holidays, and enjoyed going to the casino on weekend nights.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Patricia Acevedo of Meriden; his brothers, Gronna Cordero and Arturo Acevedo; his grandchildren, Casandra Roman, Veronica Roman, Zuleyka Fontanez and Victoria Fontanez; and his great grandchildren, Juliana Soler, Skye Soler and Sebastion Soler.
He will be missed by all who loved him including his close friends, co-workers, extended family and loved ones both near and far.
Joe’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Monday, March 28, 2022 from 4 pm until 7 pm and on Tuesday from 9 am until 11 am.
His funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday at the funeral home. You can view his service via Livestream by going to his webpage at 11 am on Tuesday. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden.
