Obituary: William “Bill” Joseph Bligh, 87, of Meriden

Bill, a toolmaker at Hansen Whitney in Hartford for many years, enjoyed golf, hockey, hunting, fishing and camping.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) William “Bill” Joseph Bligh, 87, of Meriden, CT, died on August 14th, 2021.

Bill was born in Revière Bleue, Québec on May 27th, 1934 to Theodore Bligh and Rose Bligh (Levesque).

He is survived by His wife of 54 years, Leonette “Lee” Bligh (Cormier); his daughter, Amanda Glaeser-Bligh, her husband, Hendrik Glaeser; his granddaughter, Vivien Glaeser; and his son-in-law, Michael Kroll.

He is predeceased by his eldest daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Bligh, as well as his seven brothers.

As a young man, he worked in Canada and Maine and eventually joined the Canadian military, where he served as a paratrooper and travelled through France, Brussels and Germany in his service.

He also played semi-professional ice hockey for the military teams. He moved to Connecticut in the 1960s, where he met his wife and settled down in Hartford, and later Meriden.

He worked as a toolmaker for Hansen Whitney in Hartford for many years.

Bill loved to golf and frequented the Hunter Golf Club in Meriden. He was an avid lover of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing & camping in his younger days.

His family would like to thank the many supportive humans at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden, where he was in hospice care in his final days.

There will be a funeral service & burial at the Hubbard Chapel at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden on Saturday, August 21st, 2021 at 10am.
