PD: Meriden Man Caught With Fake $100 Bill After Assaulting Girlfriend

A Meriden man accused of assaulting his girlfriend is facing additional charges after police say he was found with a counterfeit $100 bill.

Jevaun A. Phillips, 33, of Collindalle Drive, was arrested by Middletown Police on Jan. 29.

According to police, a witness reported seeing Phillips and his girlfriend, identified as Andrea M. Cruz, 20, of Middletown, fighting in a car parked in the Luce Restaurant parking lot at 98 Washington Street.

When an officer approached Cruz, she had minor injuries to her face and chest, a report says.

Further investigation revealed that Phillips was in possession of the counterfit cash, which was confirmed by the U.S. Secret Service, according to the report.

In addition, police found a marijuana grinder with residue they say belonged to Cruz. She was charged with breach of peace and non-student possession of drug paraphernalia near a school.

Phillips was charged wiith forgery and third degree assault. Police say his license was also suspended.

The pair are due back in court on Feb. 8.
