Police: Meriden Man Arrested After Kicking In Ex-Girlfriend's Door

Joseph M. Velasquez, 19, is facing domestic and drug charges over the incident in Middletown on Monday, according to police.

Middletown Police arrested a Meriden man Monday after they say he kicked in the back door of her apartment and broke her cell phone.

Joseph M. Velasquez, 19, of 118 Hall Avenue, was charged on April 15 with third degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, interfering with an emergency call and possession of marijuana less than a half-ounce.

According to a report, police responded to a home on Rose Circle in Middletown after receiving several hang-up calls from a person whispering over the phone. Neighbors also called to report a fight.

When police arrived, Velasquez was found pounding on a window, police said, and was demanding money from a woman identified as his ex-girlfriend. They say he kicked in the back door of the apartment and broke the woman's cell phone and pulled her away from the telephone.

When police searched Velasquez they found two small bags of marijuana and metallic brass knuckles in his possession, the report says.

Velasquez was arrested on Feb. 28 on domestic charges and is accused of stealing a key to the apartment a week later. There is a pending sixth-degree larceny warrant for Velasquez, the report indicates.
