Ambitious Riverfront Eatery Plan Moves Forward In Middletown

Plans call for a combined restaurant, brewery, snack shack & coffeehouse to be built at a three-story facility on the Middletown riverfront.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The transformation of the former Mattabesett Canoe Club into a three-story riverfront eatery at Harbor Park took a step forward with the recent replacement of the building’s roof, according to the Middletown Press.

The Press reported that the Common Council recently allocated $150,000 for roof work at the facility at 80 Harbor Drive in Middletown.

The husband-and-wife team of Rocco and Aubrey LaMonica, co-owners of Eli Cannon’s Tap Room in Middletown, won a bid last August to take over the former Mattabesett Canoe Club restaurant.

They plan to build a combined restaurant, brewery, snack shack and an ice cream and coffeehouse on the property, NBC Connecticut previously reported. They hope to open the facility in May, according to NBC.

Common Council Majority Leader Gene Nocera told the Middletown Press the ambitious project is “going to change the face of Middletown to a degree.”
