Body Found Inside Car That Drove Into The River, ID Released: Middletown Police

The dive team was able to recover the body of a deceased male from the submerged vehicle, police said.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The body of a Stamford man was found in the Connecticut River on Saturday, police said.

At 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Middletown Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a vehicle that drove into the Connecticut River just off of Harbor Drive, police said.

The Middletown Fire Department Dive Team, with the assistance of the Middletown Police Department Dive Team, was able to recover the body of a deceased male from the submerged vehicle, police said.

The man was later identified as 51-year-old Gautam Ramesh Mirchandani of Stamford, police said. Mirchandani’s vehicle was also recovered from the river.

"This tragic incident is being investigated by the Middletown Police Department Major Investigations Unit. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Det. D. Semper at 860-638-4143. Our sincere condolences go out to Michandani’s family and friends," police said.
