Can You Grow a 'Mo'? Wesleyan Dudes Take 'Movember' Mustache Challenge

The Middletown university's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee invites residents to 'Movember' men's hockey and basketball game fundraisers Friday to raise money for men's health programs.

If you notice a preponderance of guys around town who are shunning the razor while sporting upper lip hair, it's likely they're newly minted Mo Bros — dudes who are growing a 'stache during November to raise funds and awareness for men's health issues.

Wesleyan University Assistant football coach Jeff McDonald tells us the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is taking part in Movember.

"The idea is for all to grow a mustache (all that can) to bring attention to men’s health Issues," McDonald says.

During the men’s hockey game and men’s basketball games this Friday in the Freeman Athletic Center, 161 Cross Street, Middletown, there will be tables setup in the lobby for people to donate to the school's MO team (us.movember.com and search for "Wes SAAC") and find out more about the cause.

Take the Movember challenge yourself or donate as little as $1 to the Wesleyan SAAC team.

During November each year, Movember, the charity began in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia, challenges men around the world to grow mustaches, or "moustaches" in the U.K.

Already, 28 Wesleyan students have signed up for the challenge in Middletown, so far raising $327 for men’s health programs that combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.

Ladies, the inability to grow facial hair may be mostly limited to the brawnier sex but you can still take part by encouraging your fathers, sons, co-workers and friends to take up the challenge and by spreading the word.

All Wesleyan games are open to the public and free of charge.

There are several other Movember events taking place this month around Connecticut.
