BOE Chairman: Middletown Budget Shorting Schools

Middletown schools to suffer cuts under mayor's proposed budget, according to the chairman of the school board.

MIDDLETOWN--The mayor's proposed budget for next year just won't cut it, the school board chairman says.

According to Board of Education Chairman Vincent Loffredo, Mayor Daniel Drew's 2016-2017 budget proposal would require the board to consider cutting teaching staff and sports, The Middletown Press reports.

Although the mayor’s $152.3 million budget is a $4 million increase from last year, it's only a 1 percent increase for school spending, The Press reports. That's $3 million short of what the Board of Ed requested.
