MIDDLETOWN, CT — The COVID-19 test kit distribution that was scheduled to take place in Middletown on Friday, Dec. 31, has been canceled, Mayor Ben Florsheim announced Thursday.

The distribution had been scheduled to take place at Middletown High School and Macdonough School.

“As recent media reports have indicated, the state did not have testing supplies in hand when the rollout was announced, and unfortunately due to shipping delays we still have not received word if or when the supplies will arrive,” Florsheim said in a news release. “As a result, like other towns across the state, we unfortunately have no choice but to cancel tomorrow’s distribution. No masks or testing supplies will be available for distribution at Middletown High School or Macdonough School on Friday, December 31.

“In the near future, City of Middletown plans to partner with other cities and towns to directly purchase testing supplies in order to ensure residents have access to these crucial supplies, and will continue to advocate for additional supply from our state and federal partners. We will announce distribution dates and locations for both tests and masks, as well as any further updates, as soon as we are able and when supplies are secured in hand. In the meantime, getting vaccinated and boosted, and wearing a mask indoors, remain our best tools to combat the spread of COVID-19.

“Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience.”
