The same morning on June 13, officers responded to Liberty Street for the report of feces smeared on the homeowner’s side entry door, police said.

Police officers said neither caller could identify a suspect in the vandalism cases.

The following day on Wednesday, June 14, officers responded to Grove Street for the report of feces on the back window of a private vehicle, police said.

Police said officers determined that the unknown suspect had used feces to smear a racial slur on the rear window. The caller could not identify any potential suspects at the time.

The third incident happened on Thursday, June 15, when officers responded to High Street for the report of feces smeared on a private vehicle and the residence’s front door, police said.

Police said the caller cleaned up the property before police arrived but reported no permanent damage.

A fourth incident was reported a short time later when officers were called to Liberty Street for another report of feces smeared on the resident’s front porch window, police said.

Police said the second caller had also cleaned the property before officers arrived but reported no permanent damage.

Neither of the callers could identify any potential suspects, police said.

After evaluating all the calls and similarities, officers found that each person’s residence had a Pride flag prominently displayed on the property, police said.

Police said that while no Pride flags were damaged or vandalized during the incidents, the police department is investigating whether the vandalism has any connection to the Pride flags on the property.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect(s) is encouraged to contact Detective M. Small of the Middletown Police Major Investigations Unit at 860-638-4152.

Police said residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity.
