Fire Breaks Out In Large Compactor In Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The new year roared in with a bang — and in a not-so-good way — in the Westfield fire district of Middletown.

The Westfield Fire Department said crews started the new year with five calls for service in the first few hours of 2026.

One cal involved a "stubborn" large compactor fire.

Though the fire was brought under control and no injuries were reported, fire officials did issue a warning.

"Please use caution when discarding materials into dumpsters or trash compactors," they said.
