Man Found Guilty Of Murder In Brutal 2020 Middletown Stabbing

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 8, 2025 in the Middlesex Superior Court.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A man accused of killing a Middletown woman in a brutal 2020 stabbing incident has been found guilty of murder.

Michael A. Gailor, the state's attorney for the Middlesex Judicial District, said that a jury in Middletown Superior Court Tuesday found William Bigaud Jr., 42, of Cromwell, guilty of murder, home invasion, first-degree burglary and risk of injury to a child.

Judge Laura F. Baldini presided over the trial.

Gailor said evidence at Bigaud's trial showed that he fatally stabbed the mother of his children on June 8, 2020, and then fled the state.

He was was apprehended on June 10, 2020, after a high-speed chase by authorities in LaGrange, GA, records show.

The case was investigated by the Middletown Police Department. Assistance was provided by the Connecticut State Police, authorities in LaGrange and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Gailor said.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 8, 2025 in the Middlesex Superior Court.

In August 2020, Bigaud, then-37, was taken into custody by Middletown police at the federal courthouse in New Haven.

Bigaud left Connecticut after the woman was found stabbed to death in a Green Street apartment in Middletown on June 8, 2020. Bigaud was seen leaving the scene of the incident and was identified as the suspect, police said at the time. He was then picked up after the chase in Georgia, police said.

The woman died from multiple stab wounds stemming from a domestic violence incident, according to police.
