Motorcyclist Dies After Injuries From Crash: Middletown Police

Middletown Police officials are investigating the crash that killed the Portland resident, police said.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Portland man died from his injuries after crashing his motorcycle into a Jeep head-on Sunday night, the Middletown Police Department said.

Police said the crash happened around 5:49 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, on Hartford Avenue.

The Portland man, identified as 54-year-old Daniel Richer, was taken to Middlesex Hospital and airlifted to Hartford Hospital via Lifestar with a severe head injury, police said.

Police said Richer died from his injuries at Hartford Hospital on Tuesday, June 6, shortly after midnight.

Police officials said the crash is under investigation. However, evidence and witness testimony suggest Richer was traveling West on Hartford Avenue when he crossed the center line and hit the Jeep head-on, police said in a news release.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was not injured, police said.
