Families Celebrate National Foster Adoption Day Connecticut in Middletown

More than 40 children were adopted on this year's National Adoption Day ceremony Nov. 22 and a congratulatory celebration was held in Middletown at Middlesex Superior Court, according to WTNH News 8.

These children have been matched with families who are embracing them into their fold right before the holiday season in Connecticut. 

The Department of Children and Families Connecticut Foster Adopt group has a photo gallery and biography of 20 children waiting to be adopted. Some are living in temporary foster care and need adults in their lives to let them know they matter, according to Connecticut Foster Adopt.

Adoptive families receive training, financial assistance and social workers from Connecticut Foster Adopt to support the transition.

There are many questions potential adoptive families have and DCF has a host of answers on its website, including:

• Are there age requirements for applicants?
• Does a recent marriage, divorce, birth of a child or other major change in the family affect the application process?
• Is there an income requirement?
• Is home ownership requirement?
• Is there a limit to the number of children in my home?
• Can single parents foster or adopt?
• Can same gender couples foster or adopt?

Two children waiting for adoption are 10-year-old twins Jake and Ryan, who enjoy camping, going to the playground or swimming and have been diagnosed with autism.  

"They live together in a setting where they have consistency and routine.  With supports in place each of these young men has made steady progress and they will only continue to flourish within a family setting," according to the DCF website. Read  more about Jake and Ryan and the 18 other children hoping for a new home.
