Obituary: Jane Chamberlin, 87, formerly of Middletown

Jane, blessed with a big heart and advocate for individuals with intellectual disabilities, was a creative teacher and passionate artist.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home) Jane Chamberlin, 87, of Hamden, passed away on July 23, 2021.

She was born in Middletown, CT on November 25, 1933, the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy Carson Wingate, and was the wife of the late Robert Chamberlin.

She is survived by her children; Elizabeth (Leonard Baum), Charles (Carol), and Karen, grandchildren; Danielle (Dylan Denuzzo), Leah, Tyler (Nadia Baum), Eli, and Lyza.

She was predeceased by her brother Lawrence Wingate.

After graduating high school in Middletown, Jane went on to receive her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Art Education from SCSU.

She taught art for several years and then went on to work as Assistant Director at the West Haven Community House. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, and was a Board Member of the Hamden Art League.

She was an advocate for promoting opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Jane was a woman of many talents and her passions ran deep and wide; she was a creative teacher, an inspiring artist, and had a passion for painting, calligraphy and spending time with family.

Friends and family will miss her quick wit and above all, her big heart.

A Prayer Service celebrating Jane’s life will be held on Aug 7th at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, 28 Church St., West Haven.

Burial will be private at a later date. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Camp Horizons at www.horizonsct.org.
