PD: Man Assaulted Pregnant Girlfriend Over Car Keys
Middletown Police say a 21-year-old man punched the woman's son in the face as he tried to prevent her boyfriend from injuring his mother.

A 21-year-old city man is facing assault charges after a verbal argument with his seven-and-a-half-months pregnant girlfriend over him borrowing her car turned physical.
On Oct. 24 at 9:48 p.m., police were called to a home on Main Street Extension about an assault involving Abdurrahman I. Akhdar, 21, of South Front Street, who a neighbor said assaulted his pregnant girlfriend and her son when he tried to separate them, according to the report.
The woman's son said Akhdar punched him in the face as he tried to call 911 and then ran down the street, the report says, and then the victim drove herself to Middlesex Hospital. There she told police that her boyfriend asked if he could use her car and when she declined, he pushed her twice in the chest, asked for the key again and when she refused to give it to him, slapped her in the face. Police say her son intervened and Akhdar pushed him aside and grabbed the victim by the hair and tossed her around then punched the son in the face.

The victim, police say, feared her pregnancy was compromised and sought medical treatment. At the hospital, the report says, she began having early contractions so medical staff stabilized her condition, but it was unclear if the struggle jeopardized her pregnancy.
At 2 a.m. on Oct. 24, Akhdar turned himself in to police. He was charged with disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, interfering with an emergency call and assault of a pregnant woman.
