Suspect In Middletown Bank Robbery Arrested After Brief Standoff In Meriden: Police
A man accused of bank robbery in Middletown was caught at a hotel in Meriden, police said.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A man accused of bank robbery in Middletown — who also happened to be on probation — was caught at a hotel in Meriden after a brief standoff, police said.
On Saturday at approximately 9:19 am., Middletown Police Officers responded to Liberty Bank at 460 South Main St. after being alerted to a robbery. Witnesses told officers a man walked into the bank and implied he had a weapon, according to an incident report.
Employees complied with the robber's demands for money and he left with an undetermined amount of cash, police said. Detectives from the department’s Major Investigations Unit quickly developed 61-year-old Bruce Vaughan as the sole suspect in the incident, police said.

At about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Vaughan was located at a hotel in Meriden, police said.
Officers from Middletown and Meriden negotiated with Vaughan until approximately 8 a.m., when he surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

Vaughan was charged with first-degree robbery, third-degree larceny and threatening in the second degree.
He was also charged with two counts of violation of probation and held on a total of $225,000 in bonds pending his arraignment in Middlesex Superior Court on Thursday, police said.
Vaughan has two prior convictions in Connecticut for second-degree robbery and was on probation at the time of the incident, police said.
