MIDDLETOWN, CT – Middletown Police said they investigated reports of a man making threats against Middletown Public Schools (MPS).

On April 6, Middletown Police received information that a man was making threats against MPS.

After their investigation, they determent the threat was not credible to the schools at the time.

To ensure the public’s safety, officers furthered their investigation and pursued a Risk Protection Order, which prohibits the man from obtaining weapons.

After obtaining a search warrant and searching his residence, police found no weapons or plans that could be used to assault a school.

The investigation determined that the man had known mental illness, and his statements did not rise to the level of a criminal violation.

At no time was the man a viable threat to MPS.

Middletown Police Department has not released the man’s identity due to medical diagnosis and treatment protocols.
