Tiger Scouts with the entire Middletown Cub Scout Pack 72 made more than 300 ham and cheese sandwiches for the St. Vincent DePaul Place soup kitchen on Thursday.

Middletown's soup kitchen serves breakfast, hot lunch and sandwiches for dinner.

Cub Scouting with Pack 72 is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first through fifth grades (or 6 to 10 years of age).

We engage in many activities throughout the year, and often visit educational places of interest as a group. Some places we have visited are: Boston Museum of Science, Battleship Cove, Aircraft Carrier Intrepid, Dinosaur Park, The Middletown Press, Radio Cat Vet (veterinarian), Wolfpack hockey game, and Home Depot.

There is also have a summer picnic, a bicycle rodeo, go bowling, swimming, hiking, roller skating, ice skating, and family camping. The ever-popular Pinewood Derby is one of the highlights of the year.

The focus is always on group activities and family fun; siblings are welcome at most Cub Scout events and field trips. This is a fun group, where many of the parents have become friends and often enjoy the events every bit as much as the boys.

Cub Scouting members join a Cub Scout pack and are assigned to a den, usually a neighborhood group of six to eight boys. Tiger Cubs (first-graders), Wolf Cub Scouts (second-graders), Bear Cub Scouts (third-graders), and Webelos Scouts (fourth- and fifth-graders) meet weekly (or bi-weekly).

Once a month, all of the dens and family members gather for a pack meeting at Middletown's First Church of Christ under the direction of a Cubmaster and pack committee. The committee includes parents of boys in the pack and members of the chartered organization.
