Child Porn Case Involving Subway's Jared Fogle Takes A Turn

Subway officially fired Jared on Tuesday afternoon.

MILFORD, Conn. — Federal prosecutors will hold a news conference Wednesday to discuss charges against Subway spokesman Jared Fogle, whose home was raided last month as part of a child pornography investigation, news outlets reported.

Federal, state and local investigators — including the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force —raided Fogle’s Indiana home July 7 as part of a child pornography investigation.

FOX59 and CBS4 in Indianapolis were first to report Tuesday that Fogle would accept a plea bargain. Messages left by Patch with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Indianapolis and with Fogle’s attorney, Ron Elberger, were not immediately returned.

After the July 7 raid, Subway and Fogle suspended their relationship while the investigation plays out.

Following the media reports Tuesday evening, Subway’s official Twitter account tweeted, “We no longer have a relationship with Jared and have no further comment.”

In April, Russell Taylor, the director of Fogle’s Jared Foundation, was arrested on child pornography and child exploitation charges and later attempted to commit suicide while in jail. The foundation immediately severed ties with Taylor.

Fogle rose to fame in 1999 after losing more than 200 pounds on a diet of Subway sandwiches. He became a national spokesperson for the sandwich franchise, appearing in its national ad campaigns. Subway is based in Milford.

He started the Jared Foundation in 2004 to encourage children to exercise and eat healthy.
