Fire Breaks Out At Milford Power Plant

MILFORD, CT — Firefighters extinguished a blaze at the Milford Power Project plant early Tuesday, according to a statement from the fire department.

The fire was reported at the 55 Shelland St. facility at 4:45 a.m.

Crews arrived and met plant staff who guided them toward the fire. Firefighters used Dry-Chem extinguishers to put out the blaze which was fed by hydraulic oil.

The fire extended into the unit's insulation surrounding the turbine, but firefighters prevented further spread of the flames.

No interruption of service to consumers is expected, according to the fire department's statement.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
