Former Foran Standout Named Albertus Magnus Softball Coach

The former All-State player has been named the interim head coach of the Albertus Magnus College softball team.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Former Foran standout Carli Matrisian has been named the interim head coach of the Albertus Magnus College softball team, the school announced Thursday.

Matrisian has spent the past seven seasons with the Falcons, joining the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant before the 2016 campaign.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to serve as interim head coach for Albertus Softball," Matrisian said in a news release. "This is extremely special for me since I am an alumna of Albertus Magnus College. I intend to continue to build on the legacy Coach Ed created during his tenure at the College. We are going to work tirelessly to continue the program's upward trajectory and provide a great experience for our student-athletes."

Matrisian takes over after former head coach Ed Emilieta recently announced he would be stepping down. Emielita has helmed the Albertus softball team for the past 12 seasons and, to date, has an overall coaching record of 218-196. Under Emielita's leadership, Albertus has appeared in seven consecutive GNAC Tournaments, beginning with the 2014 campaign.

As a player, Matrisian transferred to Albertus in the Spring of 2014 for her final two seasons and appeared in 75 games as a shortstop for the softball team. A team captain as a senior, she helped lead the Falcons to 44 wins in two seasons, including a berth in the Great Northeast Conference Championship (GNAC) game and ECAC Championship game in 2015.

Matrisian earned All-Southern Connecticut Conference honors as a sophomore, junior and senior while at Foran. She also earned All-State honors as a senior, and was also named to the All-Star team and a New Haven Register All-Star as a senior. She served as a team captain as a junior and senior and also played basketball and volleyball while at Foran.
