MILFORD, CT — The Bridgeport Flyer Diner at 249 Bridgeport Ave. will remain as a diner, just as it had over the past 50 years.

The Planning and Zoning Board said no to a developer's proposal to develop the site into a mixed-use development, which would have included 50 housing units, Hearst Connecticut reported.

The diner's owner Dennis P. Kokenos has said he'd like to retire soon, Hearst CT reported. The developer needed a regulation change approved in order for the project to proceed, and that was rejected by the PZB on Tuesday night. (Read more at Hearst CT.)

"We have had the pleasure of serving the Milford community for decades, and we want to take this opportunity to address the recent speculation regarding the sale of the diner. First and foremost, we are delighted to confirm that the diner is OPEN for business and there are no plans to close anytime soon. We are still here to meet all your Green Goddess needs!

"Secondly, we had considered selling as we enter the next phase of our lives, aiming to slow down and enjoy more time with our family. However, the sale was not approved, and we will now focus on the future and what lies ahead for the diner. We have received a lot of great feedback from the community during this time and will be taking it into account as we embark on this next chapter. We are committed to remaining a cornerstone of this community, offering great food and hospitality.

"We deeply appreciate your business and loyalty throughout the years, and we look forward to many more to come!" the Facebook post concludes.
