Guilford Man Charged After Shooting At 2 Residences: Guilford Police
Christopher Massey, chief of police, said the two homes targeted were former homes of the man's classmates from Guilford High School.

GUILFORD, CT — Gregory McHugh, 39, of Guilford, has been accused of shooting at two residences in Guilford, one on Dec. 21, 2022, and one on Oct. 25, 2023, police chief Christopher Massey said.
Massey said on Oct. 25, 2023, the police department responded to a residence on New England Road adjacent to Guilford High School for the report of an occupied residence being struck by gunfire overnight.
“It was determined, through video surveillance, the home had been struck by gun fire the night before by an unknown subject,” he said.

Massey said multiple 9mm handgun casings were recovered from the High school parking lot and were sent to the Connecticut Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
“It was determined that the 9mm recovered shell casings from the scene were matched with 9mm shell casings from a shooting in Guilford that occurred on Dec. 21, 2022,” Massey said. “At that scene, an occupied residence was also fired upon the night before around 11 p.m., and numerous shell casings were recovered.”

Massey said there was no injury to the residents who occupied the homes when the shootings occurred.
“An extremely detailed and labor-intensive investigation took place, spearheaded by our detective unit,” Massey said. “Their investigation was assisted by the Connecticut Forensic Laboratory, New Haven States Attorney Office and also FBI New Haven.”
The investigation uncovered that McHugh legally owned a 9mm handgun, and he had purchased ammunition consistent with the casings found at both scenes, Massey said.
“An extensive review of cellular data revealed he was at the crime scene at the time these incidents took place,” Massey said. “A search warrant was executed at his home based on the findings and a 9mm was seized and was matched to both scenes through forensic analysis.”
Massey said a written list was seized during the of McHugh’s home that included the names of two of the victim’s daughters who graduated from Guilford High School with McHugh, along with other names.
“We have yet to determine the connection with this list and the shooting incidents if any,” he said. “The true motive behind these shootings is still in question, however, we have drawn a connection between the two residences targeted as being the former homes of McHugh’s classmates from Guilford High School from 2003.”
McHugh was charged with two counts of 1st-degree Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, two counts of 1st-degree Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, two counts of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, possession of a weapon on school grounds, and negligent storage of a firearm, Massey said.
Massey said that McHugh was held instead of a $250,000 court-set bond and transported to New Haven for his arraignment.
