Mixed-Use Project Pitched For Downtown Milford Spot

The city is reviewing a proposal for a residential and commercial project in downtown Milford.

MILFORD, CT — A developer has proposed a mixed-use project at a downtown Milford site.

The proposal comes from Stuart Walls of 40 Broad St., LLC. Thomas Lynch, an attorney representing the project, said it will involve 11 residential units and 3 commercial spaces.

The 40 Broad St. site is behind Colony Grill and is currently parking.

Those eight parking spaces will be retained in the project as the ground floor with the building constructed on top. Lynch noted that the spaces will not be useable for about six months during construction.

The Planning and Zoning Board unanimously approved the temporary displacement of eight parking spaces at its Dec. 2 meeting.

Lynch said a handicapped space will be added to the parking area as part of the project.

City Attorney Jonathan Berchem said that the city was mainly concerned about maintaining the spaces, as parking is "at a premium" in downtown.

The parking matter will now go to the Board of Aldermen. If approved there, the Planning and Zoning Commission would then review a site plan for the proposal.
