Man's Death In Fire Deemed Homicide In Milford: Report
The Milford man died in a fire in a wooded area behind the Lowe's store.

MILFORD, CT — The death of a man in a fire behind a Lowe's store in Milford in August has been deemed a homicide.
The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner made the determination that Joseph Kane, 57, died due to smoke inhalation and thermal injuries, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.
Kane died following a fire at a homeless encampment in a wooded area behind the Lowe's at 311 Old Gate Lane.

Another person and a firefighter were also hurt in the blaze.
Police said there was a criminal investigation into the fire. No arrests have been made.

Kane was remembered as "a kind soul who touched the lives of so many, always ready for an adventure, thoughtful in his ways, and giving of himself to others," according to a GoFundMe honoring him.
