Milford Fire Union Shares Urgent Message With Residents

The fire union urged residents to contact local officials, according to a social media post.

MILFORD, CT — The Milford fire union on its Facebook message shared a message with local residents regarding its apparatuses.

The Milford Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 944 wrote: "OUT OF SERVICE!!! Currently the Milford Fire Department is without any staffed aerial apparatus within the city. Tower 1 has been out of service sitting at East Side station for over 2 years. Quint 3 has a blown motor and is out for a few months. Quint 5 has been battling some electrical issues and it is an unknown timetable of when it returns to service.

"Budget cuts and removal of the maintenance division has been detrimental to our apparatus maintenance. Although the city is currently staffed with 6 fire engines capable of fire suppression, each unit is limited to a 24 ft extension ladder. The shoreline communities and high rise apartment buildings can be greatly effected by this as our mutual aid companies will be coming from over 10 minutes away.
