Joan Smeland has always walked her 9-year-old black Labrador retriever, Buddy, twice-daily, but now is doing it for more than just health and well-being, according to the New Haven Register.

Smeland hopes to walk every street in Milford, totalling 970 overall, to benefit programs that help those suffering from mental health issues, the Register reports.

The “Paws Across Milford” initiative Smeland started is a website that allows people who make a direct donation to at least one of the following charities — United Way of Milford, Reggie’s Pet Project in Norwalk or Bridges’ Follks on Spokes, a fundraiser taking place Sept. 27, which Buddy will participate in, and you can too — to earn themselves a pawprint with their name and sponsored street on her website, according to Smeland’s website.
