Information via the Milford Public Schools:

What do we want for our school system? How can we prepare students for the future workplace? What does this mean for our community?

Please join us as we gain valuable insight from a Student and Business Leader panel regarding school experiences, future workforce expectations, and what that means for our entire community. Attendees will then discuss these topics in small groups and reconvene for a global view of all perspectives.

Letter from Milford schools superintendent Anna Cutaia,

Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff Members,

We are pleased to extend an invitation to you to participate in our THINK BIG, DREAM BIG Community Conversations that will take place in October. Like many school districts, we are faced with the challenge of how to best prepare students for a constantly changing workplace. We realize we are preparing students for careers that may not even be currently in existence. We are asking ourselves: What might those occupations be? What skills will students need to enter those occupations? And what will we need to do, as a community, to ensure our young people are prepared?

Our Community Conversations will give you the chance to hear from current students and business leaders to better understand our schools today in Milford as well as the market forces that we must consider for the future. Two sessions will be held (same content will be presented at both):

Wednesday, October 4, 2023: (@ Foran HS)
Monday, October 16, 2023: (@ Jonathan Law HS)
Time: 5:30 - 6:00 (light dinner)
6:00 - 8:00 (panel & discussion)

In order to prepare for our Conversations, we ask you to review the following materials. Shift Happens, a powerful and thought-provoking 5-minute video, is sure to play a part in our discussions. Learning the Right Way to Struggle addresses an educational model we are currently using in Milford to develop creativity and problem-solving skills in our students. Last, but not least, we ask you to read Defining the Skills Needed in the Future, a fascinating look at how to prepare for the future workforce.

In order for us to plan properly, pre-registration for either Conversation is required. A light dinner and free childcare also will be provided at both sessions. Click here to register.

We hope you will be able to join us for one (or both) of these evenings as we continue to move our district forward.

Sincerely,
Anna Cutaia, Ed. D.
Superintendent
