Milford's Energy Advisory Board Encourages Home Solar Programs

Milford’s Energy Advisory Board continues to encourage residents to consider homer solar programs. Connecticut Green Bank provides incentives to residents in 1-4 family owner-occupied properties in the UI territories. Incentives are available to customers whether they choose to purchase or lease their system. Information on our Residential Solar Investment Program, including incentives, can be found online.

The following characteristics indicate that you have a good location for a solar system:

  • a roof facing south, southeast or southwest (ground mounted systems are an alternative option);
  • 35-50 degree roof tilt
  • clear access to sun for most of the day (i.e., unobstructed by trees, roof gables, chimneys or other buildings);
  • adequate roof space and
  • a roof in good condition

Milford residents interested in going solar also should visit the the Go Solar CT site, which is dedicated to providing information needed to make smart decisions about solar for their home. It offers consumers information and resources that help them become savvy solar shoppers.

Residents interested in financing their system should learn about the Smart-E Loan, which offers no money down, low interest financing with flexible terms. The Green Bank has partnered with local lenders throughout the state to offer this financing product which can be used to pay for more than 40 different home energy improvement measures. Further information is available on the Energize CT website. Certain installers may offer other financing options including loans, leases and power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Finally, the Solarize CT program has evolved so as to allow towns to conduct another campaign. Even if the town is not participating in a campaign, interested residents can receive discounted prices on solar from a qualified installer. For more information, please visit the Solarize CT website.
