MILFORD, CT — A reported shoplifting incident at Target on Monday led to the arrest of a man, who is accused of hitting a police officer's face with a closed fist, police said.

On Aug. 5, police responded to a shoplifting incident at Target. Loss Prevention gave a description of the subject who had exited the store with unpaid merchandise, police said.

Arriving officers saw a man matching the description near the Target exit, police said. The man, a 21-year-old Stratford resident, "refused to stop for officers, turned quickly, and struck the side of an officer’s face with a closed fist," police said in a statement.

The accused is charged with sixth-degree larceny and assault on a police officer. The officer suffered no apparent injury, police added.
