SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued both a hazardous weather outlook and a special weather statement for the region Thursday morning.

"Fog will continue to lower visibility to mile or less at times through daybreak, with patchy dense fog lowering visibilities to a quarter of a mile in spots," the weather service said. "Visibilities are expected to quickly improve away from the coast in the early to mid morning as fog scours out, but may take until early afternoon to improve across immediate southern and eastern coastal areas."

A dense fog advisory has been issued for most of the area until 11 a.m. "Visibility less than one quarter mile in dense fog....Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility...Farther south and east, the dense fog should lift in most places between 10 and 11 AM," according to the weather service.

"After a foggy, misty start, clouds break up a bit this afternoon, allowing the sun to really crank up the temperatures," the WFSB 3 TV meteorologists wrote. "Inland areas go from the low 50s to the mid 70s in just a few hours, while an onshore flow at the shoreline keeps highs in the 60s. This also will build up a bit of instability, or energy, for potential thunderstorms to use as the cold front rolls in. The Storm Prediction Center has placed CT in the General Thunderstorm Category, so we can’t rule out a couple of stronger wind gusts, heavy rainfall and lightning to be mindful of. When the thunder roars, go indoors." (Watch the full WFSB 3 TV weather forecast here).
