Special Weather Statement Issued For All Of Southern Connecticut: Here's Why

A special weather statement has been issued by the National Weather Service for all of southern Connecticut on Thursday.

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — A special weather statement has been issued by the National Weather Service for potentially icy road conditions Thursday morning.

"With surface temperatures falling to around or just below freezing, high relative humidity and light winds, black ice may form overnight into early this morning. Be prepared for a possible thin layer of ice on untreated road, sidewalks, stairs, and driveways."

"Watch out!" WFSB 3 TV meteorologists cautioned. "While the cloud coverage has eroded overnight, it’s just cold enough where there could be some patchy black ice this morning. By daybreak, expect lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s – as temps go below freezing, residual moisture on untreated surfaces could turn to patchy black ice! Be careful under foot and tire!"

Warmer weather and rain on Friday

"Today is a mild and bright day with highs in the mid-40s. Friday...we’re forecasting highs near 50 as we close out the workweek! (Friday), we’ll start out with some sun, but cloud cover will be on the increase in advance of scattered showers beginning toward/after sunset," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said.

Rainy weekend

"Saturday is cloudy and you’ll need the umbrella again with a rising chance for rain from the afternoon into the evening hours," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. "We’re talking rain as temps will still be above average, topping out between 45 and 50. Sunday, other than some lingering showers early, we should see a blend of sun and clouds. Behind a cold front it will be a bit breezy, also relatively cooler with highs in the mid-40s. (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).

There are no snow chances in the forecast through at least mid-week of next week.
