SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for southern Connecticut on Sunday due to the chance of severe thunderstorms and a heat advisory.

The National Weather Service said between 2-11 p.m. Sunday there is a chance for a severe thunderstorm and a flood threat.

  • Damaging Winds: Wind gusts of 58 mph or greater could damage trees and powerlines and result in scattered power outages.
  • Localized flash flood threat if multiple storms move over the same area, with rainfall rates of 1 to 2”/hr.
  • Brief tornado or two possible, best chance for northern areas.
  • Localized large hail to 1 inch in diameter could result in minor damage to motor vehicles. Best chances for northern areas.

Additionally, a heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. for most of southern Connecticut as it will feel as hot as 99 degrees in certain areas.

Today: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 98. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. West wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
