MILFORD, CT — The victim in a fatal fire last week has been identified by police. The victim was Joseph Kane, 57.

Police said the case is "currently being treated as an active criminal investigation."

No arrests have been made.

Kane died following a fire in a homeless encampment behind Lowe's at 311 Old Gate Lane.

Another person was injured in the blaze, and a firefighter was also hurt, according to WFSB 3-TV. Both were hospitalized.

WTNH News 8 reports that the fire was located in the woods.

There are about a dozen encampments in the area, and the fire began shortly after noon Friday, according to Hearst CT.
