VIDEO: Are Teen Driving Laws OK, Too Strict or Not Strict Enough?

Connecticut entered its fourth year of strengthened driving laws aimed specifically at teen drivers. The National Highway Traffic Administration reports that traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for people age 15 to 20.

Connecticut's teen driving laws are some of the strictest in the country and in 2008, legislatures adopted these recommendations into law:

• longer periods of passenger restrictions for teen drivers,
• an earlier 11 p.m. curfew time for these drivers to be off the road except for certain situations,
• harder penalties through increased fines and license suspensions for violators of the laws,
• rigorous training requirements for study and on-the-road practice,
• and a mandated parent-teen information session about safe driving and teen development.
